Pagara returns after 8-month ‘rest,’to face Palawan native in exhibition

Former ALA Boy Albert Pagara will be featured in an exhibition bout in Fight Club Philippines’ “Battle Ground” Amateur Boxing and MMA Competition on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at the Balayong Sports Complex in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

The 29-year-old Pagara is up against hometown fighter Lorence Rosas in the featured exhibition.

Pagara and Rosas will be fighting a three-round exhibition, wearing headgear.

Pagara is also one of the guest judges of the show along with former boxer and mixed-martial arts fighter Rodel Orais, ONE Championship fighter Jenely Olsim and 32nd Southeast Asian Games kickboxing gold medalist Claudine Veloso.

Pagara is deep in preparation for his upcoming ring return on Aug. 30 in Turkistan, Kazakhstan.

Pagara will be fighting Russian Alexey Mazur for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Asia-Pacific lightweight belt.

Pagara, who now trains under the tutelage of Jing Jing Tepora, hasn’t fought for over eight months since stopping Allan Villanueva in four rounds last Nov. 5, 2022 in Talisay City. He has won his last eight fights since suffering his only career defeat against Cesar Juarez in 2016.

He’ll be in for a tough assignment against Masur, who is unbeaten in eight fights as a pro.

The 32-year-old Mazur won the biggest fight of his career after dominating former world title challenger Frank Manzanilla by unanimous decision last April 26.

Pagara is 34-1 with 24 knockouts, while Mazur is 9-0 with five knockouts. (EKA)
