THE Office of the Vice President (OVP) supports the Department of Education (DepEd) for the Brigada Eskwela 2023 initiative.

Brigada Eskwela is an annual nationwide school cleaning program that encourages active involvement from all stakeholders in maintaining school facilities for the upcoming academic year.

According to a press release from the OVP, this support will be carried out through the 10 OVP satellite offices in Davao, Tacloban, Dagupan, Isabela, Cebu, Bacolod, Bicol Region, Zamboanga, Surigao, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm).

Several schools are slated for assistance during the Brigada Eskwela activities. On August 14, teams will be present at Cauayan South Central School in Isabela, East Central Integrated School in Dagupan, Gogon Central Elementary School in Legazpi, St. Francis Elementary School in Dagupan, Labagon Elementary School in Cebu, Salum Elementary School in Zamboanga, and Victoria Elementary School in Surigao.

On August 15, the Davao OVP Satellite Office will assist Governor Vicente Duterte National High School.

Additionally, on August 17, the Barmm OVP will support Barangay Pagalamatan Elementary School.

During the Brigada Eskwela kick-off in Tarlac on Monday, August 7, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte highlighted the significance of DepEd Order Number 21 series of 2023, also known as the Brigada Eskwela Implementing Guidelines.

She underscored how these guidelines can lead to a more promising and resilient start for Filipino learners.

“Brigada Eskwela is an appeal to the Bayanihan spirit of every Filipino to help prepare our schools for the opening of classes,” Duterte said. “It is (to) make our schools functional, clean, and orderly inside and outside the classrooms and within the school sides.”

Beyond the support for Brigada Eskwela, Duterte is set to participate in a tree-planting endeavor as part of the multi-faceted Pagbabago: A Million Learners and Trees Campaign initiated by the OVP across the Philippines.

The tree-planting activity aligns with the National Teachers’ Day and World Teachers’ Day celebrations. The first leg is scheduled on September 5, coinciding with National Teachers’ Day, and the second is planned for October 5.
