Cordova implements schedule for filing of COCs for BSKE according to barangays

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the municipality of Cordova on Mactan Island will implement a scheduling in the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Jovito Beltran, election officer of Cordova, announced that the move seeks to prevent the candidates from overcrowding at their small office during the filing of COCs from August 28 to September 2, 2023.

"Six days na siya from six o'clock in the morning to five o'clock in the afternoon. And then para hapsay ang atong pagpahigayon sa maong activity, duna mi gihimo nga schedule sa barangay para dili gani gubot, dili gani samok," Beltran said on Monday, August 14, 2023.

(This will run for six days from six o'clock in the morning to five o'clock in the afternoon. In order that the activity runs smoothly, we created a schedule for the barangays follow so that it is organized and not chaotic).

According to the schedule, barangays Buagsong, Bangbang, and San Miguel will file COCs on August 1; Ibabao, Catarman, and Poblacion will file COCs on August 29; Pilipog and Hilutongan will file COCs on August 30; Cogon, Day-as, and Gabi will file COCs on August 31; and the remaining barangays will file COCs on September 1 and 2.

Beltran claimed that the schedule of the COC registration was put in place because certain applicants preferred to sign up on days they considered lucky.

"Kana sad among namatikdan, dili man gyud na kalikayan no bahin anang atong pagtuo-tuo nga basta pataas gani diha magtapok tanan, unya kung paubos ang numero, walay mo-kuan. So nahadlok mi nga basin sa second day, walay mo-file unya magpunsisok tanan sa first day," Beltran said.

(That's what we observed, it's inevitable about our belief that if the number of calendar dates is big, everyone will crowd, then if the number drops down, no one will file. So we're afraid that maybe on the second day no one will file since they will crowd on the first day).

Beltran reminded the candidates to abide by the Comelec guidelines.

The election gun ban will start on the same day of the filing of COCs until November 29.

The election campaign period will be from October 19 to October 28. The liquor ban will be implemented on October 29 until the election on October 30.(ANV, TPT)
