A JOINT police operation involving the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) resulted in the dismantling of an alleged drug den and the arrest of seven suspected drug personalities in Barangay Bagongbayan, Bato, Leyte Friday, August 18, 2023.

The suspects were identified as a 29-year-old high-value individual (HVI) from Barangay Bagongbayan; a 35-year-old carpenter from Barangay Tugas, Bato; a 33-year-old married man from Barangay Baas, Hilongos; a 31-year-old resident from Barangay Kangha-as, Hilongos; a 31-year-old man from Barangay Central, Hilongos; another 27-year-old resident from Barangay Bagongbayan; and a 36-year-old resident from Barangay Tinago.

During the operation, police and anti-drug agents were able to purchase and recover a total of 10 sachets of suspected shabu, cash, drug paraphernalia, a weighing scale, and a mobile phone from the suspects.

The inventory of recovered pieces of evidence was conducted at the place of arrest in the presence of the suspects and witnessed by barangay officials and a local media representative, as stated in the police report.

A case for violations of Section 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002, is now being prepared for filing in court against the suspects. (SunStar Philippines)
