Worker shot inside school campus in Biliran

A 65-YEAR-OLD worker was shot and wounded inside a public school campus at Barangay Virginia, Culaba, Biliran following a heated argument with another person during an alleged drinking session on Friday evening, August 18, 2023.

Authorities identified the victim as Abner Mondano, married, administrative aide, and a resident of the said town.

In the information released by the police, the suspect was known as Hector Cariño, 61, seaman, and a resident of Culaba.

Investigation disclosed that during a drinking session, an argument escalated between the victim and the suspect around 7:30 p.m. Friday inside the school premises.

The suspect suddenly pulled a gun from his sling bag and fired at the victim, according to the police.

"The victim managed to escape from the gunshot and struggled with the suspect over the gun where the suspect sustained a head wound during their fight," authorities said in the report.

Recovered at the scene were Caliber 45 with serial number 561945, magazine containing five live rounds, and an empty shell.

The suspect was apprehended and taken to Culaba Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

According to the police, the suspect presented his License To Own and Possess Firearm (LTOPF) with an identification card valid until July 2, 2022, and firearm registration with identification card valid until June 18, 2023.
