3 sugar mills to start milling on Sept.

Three sugar mills in Negros Occidental will start their milling operations in the first week of September.

Lopez Sugar Corporation and Sagay Central Inc. will start their milling operations for Crop Year 2023-2024 on September 4.

The two sugar mills will start accepting sugarcane at their respective transloading stations on September 1.

Both sugar mills are located in northern Negros Occidental.

On the other hand, the Binalbagan-Isabela Sugar Company in Binalbagan town in southern Negros also announced that they will accept sugar canes on September 4 and start milling operations on September 7.

Major sugar mills are expected to start milling on September 1.

Earlier, the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) said it would stick to plans for a September opening to milling season, rejecting appeals from planters to begin in August.

SRA Acting Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona said that the ultimate goal in raising output is to become self-sufficient in sugar.*
