THE Philippine National Police (PNP) is making sure that the Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) on October 30, 2023 will be honest, peaceful and credible.
This was announced by Police Lieutenant General Rhodel Sermonia, the Deputy Chief for Administration of the PNP, during a press conference held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) headquarters in Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr. on Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City.
Sermonia claimed that the PNP is prepared to offer security during the election season, which will run from August 28 until November 29.
The general revealed that all regional police directors had just been called to Camp Crame headquarters in Quezon City to lay down their security protocols for a peaceful, fair, and orderly election free of corruption.
According to him, all police officials are already aware of the election guidelines that should be followed by the BSKE candidates.
Among the measures the police will implement are the liquor ban and Comelec gun ban, which prohibits individuals with licensed firearms from carrying them during the election period.
Despite the tragic incident in March that claimed the lives of Governor Roel Degamo and nine other civilians, Sermonia assured that the election in Negros Oriental will be peaceful.
"We've learned for what had happened in Negros Oriental, and I can confidently say that the Philippine National Police along with our partner agencies especially the Armed Forces of the Philippines dyan sa particular area ay ma manage po natin, we don’t see any reason na hindi po maging peaceful ang election dyan," Sermonia said.
Sermonia claimed that the police in Negros Oriental have stepped up their efforts to find wanted persons who could be hired by some politicians as their bodyguards.(AYB, TPT)
