THE Mandaue City Government has set aside P800,000 for the installation of partition walls in 27 public schools in the city, which will serve as voting centers in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in October.

City Councilor and chairman of the committee on education Malcolm Sanchez said Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, that Department of General Services (DGS) personnel will start making the partition walls next week.

A partition wall is typically made from glass, brick, metal, and plastic and used in offices and houses to divide rooms into sections or portions.

Sanchez explained that the partition walls, constructed from plywood and equipped with built-in wheels, will be distributed across 39 select classrooms. He further said that their aim is for these divider walls to be easily transferable, with the intention of recycling them for the next elections.

“Once the election ends, DGS personnel will collect the partition walls and store them for the next elections to save cost,” said Sanchez.

Mandaue City logged 313,449 registered voters for the BSKE.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) 7 said last week that they are now 80 percent ready for the BSKE.

Lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano, Comelec 7 director, said the remaining 20 percent is dedicated to the preparation for the upcoming filing of the Certificate of Candidacy from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2.

Comelec 7 and other Comelec satellite offices also conducted a simultaneous Mall Voting Simulation in Robinsons Galleria Cebu to test the preparation of electoral boards for the October election. This was participated by 50 voters from Barangay Parian.

Castillano said the dry run went smooth, and they did not encounter any challenges.
