OFWs, beneficiaries reintegration campaign in Victorias City

The comprehensive Public Awareness Campaign on Reintegration was conducted today, August 25, a significant step towards enhancing the lives of Victoriahanon Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and beneficiaries of Victorias City OFW Federation.

The International Labour Organization of Negros Occidental Provincial Committee on Migration and Development in collaboration with the Center for Migrant Advocacy and the OFW Federation of Negros Occidental spearheaded the said awareness campaign.

A total of 200 participants from different barangays convened at the Barangay V Covered Court for the activity.

The project titled, “Establishing and Institutionalizing Gender-Responsive Migrant Resource Center, OFW Helpdesks, and Services for Women Migrant Workers in Negros Occidental” placed a strong emphasis on reintegration, delving into essential aspects such as the realities of working abroad, self-care strategies for OFWs, financial literacy, and a thorough stock-taking of resources.

During the activity, Gerlie Villanueva of Barangay I was presented with a check amounting to Php 5,000 under the Welfare Assistance Program on Illness, while Mary Ann Patubo of Barangay V received Php 20,000 under the Welfare Assistance Program on Bereavement.

SP Committee Chair on Migrant Workers Councilor Dexter Senido graced the event and raffled off a total of Php 3,000 to 10 lucky participants.

Punong Barangay Jose Luis Fermin of Barangay V, Punong Barangay Rolando Millan of Barangay VI, and Punong Barangay Eduardo Paran of Barangay XVII also attended the campaign.

They were joined by Executive Assistant IV to the Office of the Governor Marie June Castro, OFW Negros Occidental Federation Inc. President Salvacion Barrios, Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC) Administrative Aide Katrina Hilado, Provincial Treasurer’s Office Administrative Aide IV Eda Balalilhe, MEE-MRC Manager/SPCD Head Engr. Jose Maria Amugod, and Migrant Desk Officer Marjorie Ayco.

The event did not only raised awareness about the challenges faced by OFWs but also showcased the collective efforts of various organizations and officials in creating a more supportive environment for the OFW community and their families. (PR)
