Goring leaves over P112-M in agri losses, displaces more than 100K Negrenses

The continuous rains and flooding triggered by southwest monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon Goring have left P112,994,042.81 in agricultural losses in Negros Occidental, a report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) showed.

The PDRRMC also reported that 2,753 farmers were affected, while 3,193.37 hectares of farmland were damaged.

Damage to fisheries was pegged at P1,447,000, which affected 44 hectares in two barangays from two local government units.

A total of P1,170,500 worth of damages to livestock were also reported, affecting six local governments, 24 households, and 84 heads of animals.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, the PDRRMC also reported that the flooding affected 100,334 Negrenses, or 30,916 families, in 139 barangays from 15 local governments.

Data also showed that there are still 1,949 families staying inside the evacuation centers.

The flooding damaged nine local governments and 49 barangays.

STATE OF CALAMITY

Meanwhile, Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo said Wednesday, August 30, that they are planning to place the locality under a state of calamity.

This, after more than 9,300 residents in 18 barangays were affected by the flooding, Yulo said.

They were evacuated to 28 evacuation centers activated by the city government.

Yulo said the city government will allocate P4 million disaster response fund that will include food and non-food items.*
