MONKAYO Mayor Manuel Zamora emphasized that the absence of insurgents has greatly contributed to numerous improvements in their municipality.

“Number one is [the absence of] insurgency. Wala ka nang ni isang [insurgent] na makita dito na naglaroy-laroy, kaya ganoon (there are no longer insurgents roaming around, that’s why),” Zamora said in an interview with the media on August 31.

Because of the insurgency-free status, Zamora said the support of the National Government seemed to continue to increase over time in the municipality.

Attributing to the insurgency-free status, the mayor also said that a P6.5 billion budget is being readied to further develop Monkayo.

“Luckily, I saw the budget for the first year, ang pinakamalaking budget dito (the biggest budget) comes from [Congresswoman] Maricar [Zamora], how much, P6.5 billion ang ibinuhos dito (was being allocated),” Zamora said.

The budget will be used to build more establishments and roads. Zamora specifically said that road developments will have a P200-million allotment, such as the road connecting Barangay Salvacion and Poblacion Monkayo.

However, as of the moment, the road structures and legalities of the proposed project are still “subject to debate and scrutiny”.

Meanwhile, based on Davao de Oro First District Rep. Zamora’s Facebook page, several rehabilitations and developments have been completed since June 2022, namely the Monkayo Rural Health Unit (RHU) Building, Municipal Hall, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRMO) Building.

Reportedly, the RHU received P25 million in funds, while the Municipal Hall received P20 million. The MDRRMO Building was also given a P12 million budget.

Davao de Oro Vice Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy declared the province free from insurgents in June 2022 through a provincial resolution. ICE
