A 47-YEAR-OLD man and his lover landed in jail after his wife caught them together in Mandaue City on Monday morning, Sept. 4, 2023.

The married man “Bert,” not his real name, was caught by his wife sleeping with his alleged mistress “Inah” (not his real name) in her house in Sitio Superior, Barangay Looc; this was after Bert reportedly did not come home for days.

SunStar Cebu has withheld the subjects’ real names upon request for security purposes.

Police Major Erwin Abrasado, chief of Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) Station 5, said on Monday that the suspect’s wife sought the assistance of their office around 5:50 a.m. on Monday to help find his husband, who allegedly had not been home for days.

Abrasado led them to the mistress’ house where they found Bert and Inah sleeping together.

Based on initial reports, Bert once worked as a building contractor in Saudi Arabia and recently arrived in Cebu after his 10-year contract ended.

He was also supposed to work with the MCPO to fix broken furniture.

Abrasado said the wife claimed that Bert, while working abroad, only sends a small amount as financial support, which started his wife’s suspicion that he is having an affair.

The wife noticed that since her husband returned to Cebu, he rarely stayed at home, which increased her suspicion. As a result, she decided to monitor his day-to-day activities.

In an interview with the media, Bert confessed to committing the crime as revenge against his wife, who constantly belittled him during their arguments over his meager financial contributions.

He added he was offended by his wife for having him arrested, saying it was “sabotage.”

Bert also denied his wife’s accusation of him not coming home for days.

“Siya ning di mga ulian. Wala sad ko kabalo asa siya kay mao iya gusto para masakpan ko niya, para duna lig-on nga ebidensya. Ako siya gitumanan sa iyang gusto. So, kabalo nako unsay mahitabo,” Bert said.

(She was the one who was often not home. I don’t even know where she goes because she wants to catch me to have a piece of solid evidence. I did what she wanted me to do. So I know what will happen.)

Bert and Inah are currently detained at the MCPO Station 5 in Barangay Opao and are set to face charges for concubinage.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Franco Rudolf Oriol, the deputy city director for administration and spokesperson, reminded couples to communicate openly to avoid similar incidents.
