CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Governor Dennis "Delta" Pineda issued Executive Order No. 29 on Monday declaring work suspension beginning at 12 noon in all government agencies in Pampanga on September 8.

The order also includes class suspension in all levels of private and public schools in Pampanga.

This is in line with the celebration of the 67 Canonical Coronation of Pampanga's patroness Virgen Delos Remedios.

The break will allow Catholics in the province to join the religious commemoration with the principal thanksgiving mass set in front of the Pampanga Provincial Capitol.

"It becomes necessary to allow all interested participants, including the youth, to attend and participate in the event," Pineda said.

Before flourishing in Pampanga, devotion to Virgen Delos Remedios began in France and was popularized by St. John Matha, who prayed to the Blessed Mother in his efforts to free slaves.

The event became popular in Spain, where she became the patroness of different crusades against Muslims. Her title changed by the places where she was enshrined, such as the Nuestra Señora de Caridad in Cuba.

The devotion was brought to Manila through the galleon trades, where the oldest Marian image of the Nuestra Señora delos Remedios is enshrined at Malate Church.

Currently, there are 17 churches listed in the Philippines dedicated to Nuestra Señora de los Remedios.
