Sultan dominates Gonzalez in Florida

TWO-TIME world title challenger Jonas Sultan is back to his winning ways after a dominant unanimous decision over Frank Gonzalez on Sept. 7, 2023 at the Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, Florida.

The 31-year-old Sultan dropped Gonzalez twice in the fight. He sent Gonzalez to the canvas in the second round with a flurry of punches. He dropped him again in the fifth round with a right uppercut. However, he was deducted a point after continuing to punch Gonzalez, while he was down.

But the point deduction didn’t matter as he dominated the fight from start to finish.

Sultan is now 19-6 with 11 knockouts, while the 26-year-old Gonzalez fell to 12-4 with six knockouts.

Sultan was coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Paul Butler in an interim World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight title bout in Liverpool, England on April 22.

Sultan first fought for a world title back in 2018 against International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas. He lost to Ancajas by unanimous decision in Fresno, California.

Sultan is working his way back up the rankings, hoping for a future world title shot.

Sultan has beaten some elite names in his division, the likes of three-time world champion Johnriel Casimero, former world titleholder Sonny Boy Jaro, Makazole Tete and Carlos Caraballo. (EKA)
