100 JOs in Bacolod terminated after filing COCs

At least 100 job order (JO) workers in Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) will not be given an appointment this month after they filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in October 2023, City Administrator Atty. Pacifico Maghari III said on Thursday, September 7.

Maghari said that based on the documents from the Sectorial Office, at least 100 JOs filed their COCs with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from August 28 to September 2, 2023.

He said that based on Comelec guidelines, it stated that any elective or appointive official or employee, or those in the civil or military service, including those in government-owned or controlled corporations, shall be considered automatically resigned upon the filing of COC for a barangay office.

“Those JO workers who filed their COCs will not be given an appointment effective this September, and they are automatically terminated,” he added.

Maghari noted that it’s only initial data, and they are also coordinating with the Comelec to determine the final number of JOs who filed their COCs.

Maghari said the termination of at least 100 JOs will not affect the operation of the city’s offices.

He said they would hire more workers to replace the posts of the JOs who filed their COCs.

“We have some individuals who are on the waiting lists to work here at the BCGC, so we can accommodate them this month,” he added.

Maghari disclosed that currently, the city has a total of 3,500 JOs assigned in BCGC.*
