AFTER her father’s demise last August, Jessa Faith Olivar was appointed as the new town councilor of San Remigio in northern Cebu to fill the position that her father, the late Jay Olivar, had left in the council.
Olivar took her oath of office before Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia in the Provincial Capitol in Cebu City, moments before the announcement of the new results of the Pasigarbo Sa Sugbo 2023 on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
In an interview with SunStar Cebu on Thursday, Sept. 7, Olivar said she was grateful to have achieved such a feat with the support she received from the supporters of her late father.
Prior to joining the town council, her father also served as mayor of San Remigio from 2010 to 2013.
“Actually, I am happy and blessed by my father’s supporters. I am not so proud about how I got the position because I do not like the way I got the position because I was appointed because my father passed away,” she said in a mix of Cebuano and English.
Olivar, a 24-year-old business owner, said she plans to continue the work of her late father, which mostly revolved around providing programs and projects for the local fisherfolk.
She said that when she took her oath of office, it was witnessed by her family members, including her mother, two of her siblings, her grandmother, and the sister of her father, Joycee Olivar, who is also a town councilor in San Remigio. Town mayor Alfonso “Al” Pestolante was also present.
San Remigio is a third-class municipality in the province of Cebu. It is 108 kilometers north of Cebu City.
It is known for its beach resorts, and diving spots and for hosting the Hagnaya Port, a jump-off point for those wishing to sail to Bantayan Island to its northwest.
San Remigio has received a boost in its tourism after a replica of the Capelinha de Fatima or the Chapel of our Lady of Fatima in Ourem, Portugal was built there in 2022. (with CTL)
