PERSONNEL of the Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) have seized some 89,600 liters of smuggled diesel with an estimated worth of P5.9 million in Zamboanga City.
The CGDSWM said on Monday, September 11, 2023, that the shipment of smuggled fuel was seized aboard M/L Zshahuny at Varadero Port in Cawit village on Sunday, September 10.
The CGDSWM personnel spotted M/L Zshahuny manned by a five-man team after they launched a seaborne patrol to verify the reported arrival of smuggled fuel in the city.
The shipment of smuggled diesel reportedly came from Malaysia and was shipped to Zamboanga City via the province of Tawi-Tawi.
The CGDSWM coordinated with the Bureau of Customs and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and conducted an inventory of the smuggled fuel and profiling of the crewmen for the filing of appropriate charges and proper disposition.
The smuggled diesel was placed in tanks and drums that total 89,600 liters, with an estimated worth of P5.9 million at P66.90 based on the prevailing price per liter.
Meanwhile, the inspection conducted by PDEA personnel yielded negative results on the presence of illegal drugs. (SunStar Zamboanga)
