THESE past few years have been tough for Jessie Cris Rosales. He’s on a rough stretch in his boxing career. A lot of doubters think his boxing career is already finished. His most recent adversity was the passing of his mother last month.
Despite all of that, Rosales still remains optimistic and is determined to prove his doubters wrong, starting with his upcoming fight next month.
“I think I have the advantage. I have a lot of inspiration and a lot of reasons to win this fight. I want to win this for my mother and those who continually believe in me. I also want to silence my doubters, who said that I’m already washed up,” Rosales told SunStar Cebu.
“A win will prove to everybody that I still have it in boxing.”
Rosales returns from a 17-month layoff and slugs it out with Japanese prospect Mioto Noguchi in a six-round special attraction bout in Haiyan Punch Boxing Promotions boxing show on Oct. 21, 2023 at the Tacloban Convention Center Astrodome in Tacloban City.
After an impressive second-round knockout upset of former Olympian Ibrahim Balla in 2018 in Australia, Rosales lost four of his last five fights. He lost to American star Shakur Stevenson, Tyler McCreary, Xavier Martinez and Thomas Mattice. His only win from 2019 to 2022 was a split decision over Junny Salogaol.
Rosales is training at home and at the Big Yellow Boxing Gym. He’s been sparring with Rhonvex Capuloy and 6’2” welterweight prospect Saagar Pradhan.
After a loss to Scorpion Kintaro last year, Noguchi has bounced back with two straight wins in 2023. He knocked out two previously unbeaten Thai prospects in Chaiyapruk Chainikom and Namchai Chomkhamsri.
This will be the 24-year-old Noguchi’s first time fighting outside of Japan.
Rosales is 23-5-1 with 10 knockouts, while Noguchi is 4-2 with four knockouts.
In the main event, Carlo Demecillo (16-8-2, 9 KOs) locks horns with Justine Darap (11-4, 7 KOs) for the interim Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight belt.
Hometown fighter Jimmy Cannu (4-1-1, 1 KO) trades leather with Reycar Auxilio (4-3, 3 KOs) for the vacant Visproba super bantamweight strap in the main supporting bout.
Also in the undercard, Jufel Salina (8-5-1, 7 KOs) takes on experienced Monico Laurente (30-19, 7 KOs), Jeffrey Basil (3-2-1, 2 KOs) is up against Ariel Antonio (2-3-1), Ivor Lastrilla (12-14-1, 7 KOs) clashes with Jason Dogelio (10-8, 3 KOs), Louie Jay Albino (2-3) faces off with Arjhay Recto (2-3), Noel Gabiana makes his pro debut against fellow newcomer Jessie Delgado, Marjohn Badilla (0-1) is fighting Lito Badenas (1-1), France Formentera battles Devid Boy Maderable (0-0-1) and Ronald Bulacan is facing Jaren Jose Guaren. / EKA
