THE Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental has implemented a temporary ban on the entry of live hogs and pork-related products from areas affected by African Swine Fever (AWF).
This after Governor Henry Oaminal issued an executive order (EO) last Friday, September 8, 2023, regulating the entry and providing guidelines on the transport of live hogs, boar semen, pork and pork-related products into Misamis Occidental.
According to the executive order, all kinds of hogs, pork and pork-related products in whatever form or quantity they may be, including those that are purely for consumption purposes only, will be "totally banned" from entering into the province.
The order added that the entry of live hogs, pork and pork products in all points of entry in Misamis Occidental is hereby regulated subject to compliance with documentary quarantine requirements.
The governor, through the EO, ordered the Provincial Veterinary Office to establish and maintain animal quarantine checkpoints manned with animal quarantine inspectors 24/7 in the borders and other areas where possible entry points of shippers from other regions or provinces.
All mayors in Misamis Occidental are also directed to strengthen the implementation of the provincial ordinances, biosecurity measures, information and education campaign (IEC) to its constituents and to report any unusual swine mortalities to the local agriculture and/or veterinary office.
Meanwhile, all vehicles entering Misamis Occidental will be subjected to a mandatory inspection and disinfection procedure.
