FIVE people were arrested while some P295,400 worth of illegal drugs and contrabands were seized in separate law enforcement operations in the region, the police reported Sunday, September 17.

One of the five was arrested in an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City, while the other four were apprehended in an anti-smuggling campaign in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.

Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo, the director of Zamboanga City Police Office, stated that Renato Abubakar, a 51-year-old welder, was arrested in an anti-drug operation around 11:16 p.m. on Saturday at Purok 6A in Recodo village, this city. Lorenzo mentioned that seized from Abubakar were approximately 28 grams of suspected shabu worth P190,400, a sling bag, and P300 in marked money.

Police Colonel Diomarie Albarico, the director of Zamboanga del Sur police, reported that the individuals arrested in anti-smuggling operations were Bonifacio Bolleno (26 years old), Fersibal Asad (39 years old), Elyamer Alvarez (18 years old), and Nasil Manasil (37 years old).

Albarico said that joint police and military operatives were conducting checkpoint operations when they intercepted a vehicle driven by Bolleno loaded with 300 reams of cigarettes worth P105,000. Bolleno and his companions were arrested, and the cigarettes were seized after they failed to present documents for their cargo.

Albarico said that Bolleno, his companions, the vehicle, and the cigarettes were taken to Pagadian City Police Station for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
