A MAN who reportedly had a history of involvement in burglaries was found dead with gunshot wounds in Sitio Telepuno, Barangay Campo 7 in Minglanilla, Cebu on Monday morning, Sept. 18, 2023.
The victim was identified as Dhinz Adzyl Zabala, a resident of Sitio Tangkungan in Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City.
Zabala, 32, had sustained three gunshot wounds to the head, and the police recovered three empty shells of a .45 pistol at the scene.
According to the police, it was children on their way to school who first came across Zabala’s body due to empty shells they found scattered along the road.
The students reported their discovery to the barangay officials, who, in turn, alerted the police.
After the news had spread on radio and social media, the victim’s aunt, Grace Zabala, was able to identify the victim.
Minglanilla Police Station Chief Kalvin Jomari Golitod said Zabala might have been killed by his associates from his past criminal activities.
Golitod said the victim was previously jailed in 2017 for theft, but he was released after serving his sentence. Zabala was also a drug surrenderer, indicating he was a drug user.
Golitod said the area where the victim was found is far from an area with houses.
A resident told the police of hearing three gunshots around 12:30 a.m. on Monday.
The police are currently reviewing security camera footage from nearby residences and establishments to identify the culprits.
According to the police, they have obtained a footage showing two men driving motorcycles passing by the area. These men could be involved in the incident, they said. (GPL / KAL)
