THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is undertaking the construction of a new multi-purpose building that will serve as a public market in Isabela City, Basilan province.

Engineer Cayamombao Dia, DPWH regional director, said on Monday, September 18, that the project entails the construction of P70 million two-story facility that would house small and large enterprises in the province of Basilan.

Dia said the multi-purpose building, built within 8,830 square meters lot, is expected to cater to the daily necessities of approximately 130,379 residents in Isabela City.

"When completed, the new public market will become the center of economic activity, providing business opportunities to locals and farmers," Dia said.

The construction of the public market is implemented by DPWH Isabela City District Engineering Office.

Dia said the project funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act. (SunStar Zamboanga)
