Retired cop charged for bringing 15 firearms in police camp

A RETIRED police official was charged with violation of election gun ban after attempting to bring 15 firearms inside the national police headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

In a press conference on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, Philippine National Police (PNP) Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO) director Brigadier General Kenneth Lucas said the vehicle was intercepted at the gate of Camp Crame on Tuesday afternoon, September 19, 2023.

He refused yet to identify the driver of the vehicle.

Lucas said 11 pistols and four shotguns, which are registered under a legitimate security agency, were retrieved from the vehicle.

He said it was brought to Camp Crame for safe keeping.

But Lucas said the person failed to present necessary documents for the transportation of the firearms.

“Kung wala tayong gun ban, ang safekeeping dapat from security agency, escortan po yan ng SOSIA natin tapos idedeposito kung saan ‘yung office na kung saan nakalagay ‘yung vault ng security agency, doon po idedeposit ‘yung firearm nung security agency,” he said.

(If we don't have a gun ban, the safekeeping must be from a security agency; our SOSIA will escort it and then deposit it in the office where the security agency's vault is located, where the security agency's firearm will be deposited.)

“Ngayon gun ban tayo so bago natin iwithdraw ‘yung baril kung saan man nakapost ‘yung mga guwardiya, dapat meron tayong Comelec exemption para itransport ‘yung mga firearms; of course, i-escortan pa rin ng SOSIA personnel natin papunta doon sa office ng security agency kung saan nakalagay ‘yung vault ng security agency,” he added.

(Now that we are on gun ban, it is important to note that before we withdraw the guns wherever the guards are posted, we must have a Comelec exemption to transport the firearms; of course, SOSIA personnel will still escort us to the office of the security agency where the vault of the security agency is located.)
