TWO people perished in separate flood-related incidents in Cebu province on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

The first incident took place at 4 p.m. in Sitio Cambuaya in the mountain barangay of Conalum, where 10-year-old boy John Mark Camajalan was found floating lifeless in the river.

According to Police Chief Master Sergeant Bienvenido Amil of the Argao Municipal Police Station, the victim was with her grandmother in Sitio Cambuaya, where a Bayanihan Sugbusog (Sugbuanong Busog, Luwas, ug Himsog) program of the Cebu provincial government was held.

However, he suddenly left and went swimming with his classmates in the river.

After he vanished, his grandmother started hunting for him, and she later discovered his lifeless body floating in the river.

The victim was brought to the Argao District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In Compostela town, northern Cebu, a 50-year-old woman died after being swept away by the flood caused by the heavy winds and rain.

The incident took place at 10:15 p.m. in Barangay Canamucan of the said municipality.

The victim was identified as Flordeliza Matiga Capuno, a resident of Sitio Canamucan 3, Barangay Canamucan.

Capuno was trapped inside her 50-year-old home, which was close to the river, when the flood struck after the river overflowed.

Patrolman Alvin Moreno, desk officer of the Compostela Municipal Police Station, revealed that the victim was taken to the town's clinic by the emergency rescue workers from the municipality, but Dr. Rhoda Mae Chua, the attending physician, declared her dead. (DVG, TPT)
