A fisherman lost his life while spearfishing in the seas off Barangay Poblacion, Alegria town, southwest Cebu.
The incident took place past 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
The victim, Leonardo Oropesa, 34, married, from Barangay Madridejos of the said municipality, reportedly went underwater to hunt fish but never made it back to the surface, according to Police Senior Master Sergeant of the Alegria Police Station.
His companions immediately called for help, but responding personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Philippine Coast Guard failed to revive him.
He was brought to the Rural Health Unit where he was pronounced dead. (DVG, TPT)
