CEBUANOS are warned to get ready for a prolonged period of rainy weather lasting till the weekend as multiple localized thunderstorms are predicted to sweep through Cebu island and the rest of the Visayas in the coming days.

Engineer Alfredo "Al" Quiblat, the head of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in Visayas, gave this weather forecast on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

According to Quiblat, the severe weather conditions are intensified by the existence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), a meteorological phenomenon surrounding the earth around the equator, where the trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet.

The ITCZ, known for its propensity to generate weather disturbances, such as localized thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, plays a significant role in the current weather outlook for the Visayas.

Quiblat underlined that these weather-related effects are not limited to Central Visayas and are anticipated to have an impact on the entire Visayas region.(AML, TPT)
