THE top-ranked Ub Huishan showed they’re in a class on their own as they clinically dismantled the Manila Chooks, 21-14, in the quarterfinals of the Chooks to Go FIBA 3x3 World Tour Cebu Masters on Sunday afternoon, September 24, 2023, at the SM Seaside City Cebu Mountain Wing.
Manila Chooks gave it all they had against the best team on the World Tour this season, as they led by three early on, 7-4, after a two-pointer by Marcus Hammonds. But the battle-tested Ub Huishan didn’t blink and eventually took control of the lead at 11-7 after a basket by the best 3x3 player in the world, Strahinja Stojacic.
Ub Huishan raised their lead to 16-10 after a slam dunk and another bucket by Stojacic but Manila Chooks stuck around and were within three, 16-13, after a basket by Tosh Sesay. However, Ub Huishan closed the game out with a flurry, first with Dejan Majstorovic scoring inside while getting fouled.
Marko Brankovic then closed the game out by scoring a putback while getting fouled. He made the bonus free-throw to seal the victory for Ub Huishan.
Stojacic led the way for Ub Huishan with 11 points and four rebounds, while Majstorovic had six points and five boards.
Marquez Letcher-Ellis and Hammonds had five points each for Manila Chooks, while Tallo and Sesay had two apiece. (JNP)
