DA confirms ASF cases in Misamis Occidental villages

CONFIRMED cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) were recorded in four barangays in Misamis Occidental, the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Northern Mindanao reported.

In an advisory posted on September 23, 2023, the agriculture department confirmed the presence of ASF in Barangays Sinarabajo and Corrales in Jimenez town, Barangay Sinonoc, Sinacaban town, and Barangay San Roque, Panaon town.

According to DA-Northern Mindanao, the whole blood specimens by the agency's Regulatory Division and the Provincial Veterinary Office of Misamis Occidental were subjected to laboratory test for ASF. The test was conducted by DA's Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.

"Laboratory results showed ASF viral DNA detected (POSITIVE) from the samples collected," the regional agriculture department stated.

The agency further said that they have conducted coordination and ground activities to contain the disease with the Regional ASF Task Force, the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, and the local government units of Jimenez, Sinacaban and Panaon.

"Biosecurity measures should be strengthened in the remaining green zones areas in the said province," DA added.

The agriculture department assured that the Regional ASF Task Force, the concerned LGUs and private stakeholders are doing their best to isolate, eliminate, and compensate, manage, contain, and control the viral disease.
