OCENR launches solid waste management program

THE Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) in Zamboanga City launched on Monday, September 25, 2023, the Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) within city the city government offices and facilities as mandated under Executive Order 064 issued by Mayor John Dalipe.

E.O. 064 established a Technical Working Group (TWG) to implement sustainable solid waste management in all city government offices and facilities, including mandatory segregation, waste classification and separate collection for specific types of wastes.

The TWG is chaired by Engineer Rey Gonzales, OCENR chief, and is composed of members coming from the different city government offices.

The main function of the TWG is to formulate an office-based SWM program in consultation with the OCENR, conduct information and education campaigns to promote proper segregation and collection of solid wastes, monitor the implementation of the SWM program, coordinate with the OCENR for technical supporting and training personnel on comprehensive SWM, submit monthly progress report to the office of the mayor and implement the color coding system for the segregated waste.

Gerry Pollisco, OCENR assistant chief, introduced on Monday, September 25, the color coding system for segregated wastes as prescribed under Ordinance 194, series 2021 as well as presented the TWG members, who will monitor the compliance of the different offices under the city government.

Pollisco said the green trash bin is intended for biodegradable wastes; blue is for recyclable wastes; black is for residual wastes; and, yellow is for special hazardous household wastes.(SunStar Zamboanga)
