As early as now, the Cebu City Government is reminding some residential and commercial building owners in Barangays Mambaling and Talamban that their properties will have to be demolished to give way to Package 2 and 3 of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit project.
At the rate of the implementation of Package 1, which is not even three kilometers long, the property owners can rest assured that it won’t be anytime soon. What is immediate, though, is the project’s effect on the traffic situation in the uptown area.
Motorists and pedestrians can expect to suffer from loss hours for many years to come until the whole project is completed.
And there’s no point in pointing fingers or heaping blame because residents are well aware of the reality that there is nowhere else to go but on the designated alternate routes while construction is ongoing.
Those who can should avoid affected areas. Those who can’t should come up with a routine to make the idle time more productive. Until then, they can always carry the hope that this, too, will eventually pass.
