SPC wins national quiz tilt

SAN PEDRO College (SPC) has made history following its win in the recently-concluded Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET)-Philippine Association of Schools of Medical Technology and Public Health (PASMETH) National Inter-School Quiz Show held last Friday, September 22 at the Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) - Valenzuela.

With this recent milestone, SPC became the first Mindanao-based school to have topped the competition that was previously dominated by Luzon schools for the past 42 years. 

PASMETH is the national organization of all recognized schools of Medical Technology in the Philippines while PAMET is the only accredited professional organization of all registered medical technologists in the country.

“Winning the national quiz bee is a testament of our steadfast preparation of proving that San Pedro College got what it takes to be among the best in the Philippines,” SPC National Quiz Show Team captain Steven Cajucom said. Completing the brilliant SPC team are Abel Isaac Felio, Marc Angelo Galendez, and Deo Prince Piapes.

“Personally, it has been a goal of mine since first year and I am blessed to be the captain of a team of brilliant students. We offer our utmost gratitude to SPC for having expert coaches to mentor us in our journey. Love serves!” the Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science  (BMLS) intern shared.

SPC’s School of Medical Laboratory Science Dean Dr. Jasmen S. Pasia, for her part said, this recent achievement is not just a win for the school but for the whole Davao Region and Mindanao. 

“We are thrilled about this achievement. It serves as a testament to our institution's unwavering commitment to delivering quality education, spanning from our dedicated faculty to the enriching clinical internship experiences offered to our students. This is the triumph not only of SPC but also of Davao Region and Mindanao,” she said. 

Before its historic win this year, the school has been ranking consistently in the competition in the past years. It placed third in 2022 and fourth in 2021. 

Helping the student-interns be prepared for the national competition are the teachers and coaches including PAMET-PASMETH Quiz Show Faculty-in-Charge Melvin Misoles; coaches Dr. Charlie Clarion, Dr. Francis Ian Salaver, Dr. Fritz Von Gella, Dr. Vanessa Calimbo, Joanne Krystine Tago, Christian John Villahermosa, Channey Salas, Jason Chua, Bea Laude, Lee-Ann Anayon, Miralyn Quirit, Fritdey Doctolero, and Gianleri Nor.

The PAMET-PASMETH National Inter-School Quiz Show is one of the events featured during the MedTech Week which is celebrated every third week of September under Republic Act 5527 also known as the Philippine Medical Technology Act.

This year’s inter-school quiz show’s first runner up is from the University of Pangasinan while OLFU-Antipolo ranked second runner up.
