THE hanging skywalk at Doña Vicenta Park has been temporarily closed by the City Engineer's Office (CEO) due to structural concerns.
CEO officer-in-charge Atty. Joseph Dominic S. Felizarta announced during a media interview on Monday morning, September 25, at City Hall Drive, that the skywalk is being closed temporarily to allow additional support installation.
"In the meantime, amoa sa siyang gipasara dili sa namo siya gipagamit sa public kay naa pa man jud tay phase two ana so didto sa phase two mag add ta ug support ana para dili na siya mu uyog (In the meantime, we are closing it off to the public because we have a phase two of the project where we will add more support to the skywalk to prevent it from shaking)," Felizarta said.
He expressed optimism that the budget for phase two would be approved, as they have already submitted the proposal to the Local Finance Community (LFC). He believes that the skywalk will be considered finished once phase two is completed.
Felizarta has instructed the contractor to address the structural issues with the skywalk, even though the budget for phase two has not yet been approved.
The decision to close the skywalk was prompted by the CEO's immediate discovery of structural issues. Closing the area to the public is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of visitors to Doña Vicenta Park.
Felizarta also attributed the structural concerns to the skywalk's design, stating that additional support in the middle of the structure is needed to reduce shaking.
Doña Vicenta Park, spanning 1.2 hectares, opened on August 2 and is located in Doña Vicenta Village, Barangay 9-A. With a budget of P76 million, the park features a 200-meter skywalk, an amphitheater, solar-powered lamp posts, a koi pond, a stage, and a library. RGP
