THE City College of Davao (CCD) aims to be awarded institutional recognition from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) before the next school year begins.
Being recognized by the commission as an institution of tertiary education will signal that the CCD has met the standards and allow the college to add more bachelor’s degree courses to its undergraduate program.
CCD President Wenefredo Cagape stated that only the project development plan of the CCD’s permanent site in Bago Oshiro, which includes the structure of the proposed campus building with approval of the city council, is the last requirement that is yet to be finalized to qualify for accreditation.
Other requirements, Cagape said, have already been complied with. These include highly qualified teaching and non-teaching faculty, fully equipped laboratories and a library, comprehensive syllabi, course packs and modules, among others.
“Ang ating kulang is talagang ayusin natin ‘yong ating project development plan, na maasikaso ‘yong ating permanent site doon (We only lack the completion of our project development plan, to process our permanent site there),” said Cagape during the Ronda DCDR program of the Davao City Disaster Radio on Monday.
In order to finalize its project development plan, the CCD is currently pursuing the third and final talks with informal settlers in the school’s permanent site this year. After which, Cagape said, the 4.7-hectare area can then be cleared and a groundbreaking for the CCD campus will commence. In two or three years, the initial phase of the CCD permanent campus is expected to operate for its 3rd year students.
The college currently offers Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education major in Heating, Ventilation, Airconditioning and Refrigeration Technology, Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education Major in Computer Programming and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship.
Upon recognition from CHED, Cagape said CCD will add Bachelor of Science in Special Education, Bachelor of Science in Social Work, Bachelor of Science in Information Science, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science courses to their program.
There are currently 320 students enrolled in the CCD. At least 39 percent of the students are members of indigenous groups. CIO
