The Bago City police said on Wednesday, September 27, that the owner of the sugar loads and the trucking services company has filed qualified theft and carnapping charges against the suspects who attempted to steal 1,000 bags of sugar worth more than P3 million.
Charged were the drivers identified as Jujiet Arseño of Pototan, Iloilo, and Michael Oryen of Cadiz City.
The bulk of the 1,000 bags of sugar were recovered at an abandoned warehouse in Bago City on Tuesday afternoon, September 26, after the police figured out what happened after reviewing the truck's Global Positioning System (GPS), which revealed the trucks' movements.
About 35 sacks were missing.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he is wondering what the two truck drivers were thinking when they decided to steal such a volume of sugar that was loaded in the two wing vans.
The governor said it was important that the suspects were quickly apprehended by the police and he is hoping that the Binalbagan-Isabela Sugar Company would also file criminal charges against the suspects.*
