VARIOUS members of emergency responders and volunteers of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (BDRRMO) in Davao City underwent a three-day medical response training.

Dubbed Dialogue on Centralization: Medical Dispatch, the medical response training spearheaded by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) on September 27, 2023 at Barrio Obrero, Davao City aims to intensify their technical knowhow on emergency-related incidents and promote the importance of proper coordination with BDRRMO personnel.

In an interview, CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baluran said “Dapat coordinated pud ang atoang pag-transport from the scene to hospitals para pag-abot didto sa hospital is prepared na pud ang mga doctors nga mu-cater sa ilaha and para ma-maximize properly ang mga resources (Our transportation from the scene to the hospital must be coordinated so that when they arrive at the hospital, the doctors who will take care of them will be prepared and the resources can be maximized properly).

Meanwhile, an official from the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) stressed the importance of the pre-hospital setting to the responders.

The pre-hospital care is provided by emergency medical services (EMS) responders. These responders are considered the initial health-care providers at the scene of disasters.

A disaster's nature is frequently first recognized by EMS workers, who may then assess the situation and identify the need for resources — including medical resources.

Prehospital care, which is typically started by a 911 call to a dispatch center, is a crucial component of the continuum of emergency health treatment.

“The survival of the patient definitely increases if there is communication from the scene to the hospital,” said Enrico Ian Deliso, Medical Special II/Assistant Training Officer at SPMC.

The training ends on September 29, this year. DEF
