Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Negros Oriental Governor Manuel "Chaco” Sagarbarria may come to the province for the Organic Festival on November 15–19.

Lacson made the statement after he met Sagarbarria with the governor of Siquijor and other officials of the provinces in a meeting with Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri last week for the Negros Island Region (NIR).

"It is our job to bring government closer to our people, and this is why we are committed to re-establishing the NIR once again," Zubiri said.

Zubiri led the discussion about the proposal to merge the provinces under a single administrative region.

Despite being part of the same island, the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental currently belong to separate administrative regions, Western Visayas and Central Visayas, respectively.

Siquijor belongs to Central Visayas.

Sagarbarria and Lacson, along with other officials of both provinces, are expected to discuss NIR extensively during his visit to the province.*
