RESIDENTS of Ilocos Norte were advised on Monday, October 2, 2023, to take necessary precautions such as avoiding the seas as Typhoon Jenny intensifies.

The northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Carasi, Vintar, Burgos, Dumalneg, Bangui, Pagudpud, Adams) is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as of the 11 a.m. weather bulletin.

Marcell Tabije, the province’s local disaster risk reduction and management officer, said all city and municipal disaster risk reduction and resiliency officers have been reminded to implement measures to avert the possible loss of lives and properties.

As part of the general safety precautions, all village officials were ordered to clear waterways, such as rivers, creeks, canals, and irrigation systems, and ensure they are not clogged, he said.

“Let us work together for a safe and resilient province so let us all remain alert and vigilant,” he added.

Animal shelters have also been provided with food and clean water, while village officials were reminded to assign a councilor or health worker to monitor the health conditions of vulnerable groups like senior citizens who are living alone, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and children.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the typhoon may reach its peak intensity on Tuesday.

Jenny will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over the western portions of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next three days.

The typhoon is seen to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday evening or Friday morning. (PNA)
