THE Balamban police are now preparing the charges against those responsible for the murder of Cansomoroy barangay councilor Anastacio Pacquiao.

Pacquiao was driving a motorcycle when he was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants on the national highway in Prenza, Balamban last Thursday, October 5, 2023.

He was then running for barangay captain of Cansomoroy in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Elections on October 30.

According to Police Colonel Percival Zorilla, head of the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO), the victim's son was able to recognize the shooter and the motorcycle's driver as his fellow habal-habal driver.

"Kaila sa anak sa biktima ug katong usa ka witness nga accordingly is kauban nya sa habal-habal," matod ni Police Colonel Percival Zorilla.

(The victim’s son and another witness knew the suspect, which, accordingly, a fellow habal-habal driver).

Zorilla, however, refused to reveal their names, in order not to hamper the hot pursuit operation being carried out by the Balamban police and the Provincial Mobile Force Company personnel against the offenders in the municipality’s hinterland barangays.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Glenn Hife, the head of the Balamban Police Station, had stated that the criminals could be detained at any time because they have outstanding arrest warrants for numerous offenses.

The police are looking into personal grudge as the crime’s motive.

The CPPO chief stated that the barangay still needs to be validated before they could include it in the Comelec's list of areas of concern.(With TPT)
