USPF Panthers stay unbeaten after win over Benedicto College

THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers pulled off a 74-65 win over the Benedicto College Cheetahs to remain unbeaten in the collegiate division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafj) basketball tournament last Tuesday night, Oct. 10, 2023, at the Cebu Coliseum.

The win was hard-earned for USPF, which trailed by double figures in the third canto before making their fiery comeback.

Peter Peteros led the Panthers with 20 points, while guard Neon Chavez had 17 points. CJ Alilin put up 11 markers to help USPF move to 3-0 and seize second place in the standings right behind the University of San Jose-Recoletos, which totes a 4-0 card.

After a long climb, Alilin and Chavez canned consecutive trifectas to put the Panthers ahead, 69-66, with a little over a minute remaining in the game.

In the high school division, the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons annihilated the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA) Trailblazers, 80-61.

CEC improved to 3-1, while CBSAA remained winless in three outings.

Caelan Mack kept his superb play going, this time amassing 23 points. Lybron James added 22 markers to power the Dragons to the victory.
