PCG man nabbed for transporting smuggled cigarettes

A PERSONNEL of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was arrested while transporting smuggled cigarettes in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Wednesday, October 10, 2023.

Police Colonel Diomarie Albarico, Zamboanga del Sur police director, identified the arrested PCG personnel as Seaman First Class (SN1) Nasrin Sangsangan, 32, a resident of San Jose Gusu village, Zamboanga City and presently assigned in Pagadian City.

Albarico said Sangsangan was arrested around 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, in Boyugan West village, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur.

He said that the personnel of the 2nd Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company were conducting a checkpoint when they flagged down a vehicle driven by Sangsangan for inspection.

Upon inspection, Albarico said Sangsangan’s vehicle was found to be loaded with 400 reams of cigarettes with P88,000.

Sangsangan was arrested for violation of Tax Reform Act of 1997 after he failed to present documents of his cargo.

Albarico said Sangsangan, his vehicle and confiscated cigarettes were brough to the municipal police station of Kumalarang for proper disposition. <b>(SunStar Zamboanga)</b>
