THE Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)-Film, Broadcast and New Media Division relaunched its "Lakbay Sine," making its first stop for its Mindanao leg in Cagayan de Oro.

CCP partnered with Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts, bringing the best Cinemalaya films and workshops by award-winning filmmakers and actors at the Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan main campus from October 11 to 14, 2023.

CCP Lakbay Sine is a series of regional film screenings with partner communities, organizations, and campuses primarily to popularize the works of Filipino filmmakers and encourage film appreciation among the youth and the general public.

The four-day event featured films from the CCP collection, such as Cinemalaya.

Apart from Lakbay Sine, CCP also brought in its Cine Icons in Cagayan de Oro, which featured Ricky Lee's "Anak," starring Vilma Santos and directed by Rory Quintos.

According to CCP, Cine Icons is a program aimed to introduce the works of the country's National Artists for Film to a wider audience, enrich film appreciation, and nurture new voices among young filmmakers and storytellers.

"Bilang president ng CCP, my objective is to discover talents, artists, and tuluyang suportahan ang mga nakikinabang sa mga training na ibinibigay ng CCP," CCP president Michelle Nikki Junia said.

"Malaki na rin ang volume ng mga mas younger artists ngayon so dapat ngayon hinuhulma na natin sila, ineexpose na natin sila," she added.

The CCP Lakbay Sine and Cine Icons at Xavier University will run from October 11 to 14 and is free and open to the public.

Apart from the film screenings, there will also be talkback sessions and workshops with filmmakers, which will allow audiences to gain deeper insights into the creative process and the cultural contexts that shape their films.

CCP brought two Cinemalaya filmmakers to conduct the filmmaking workshops, namely: She Andes, the filmmaker of "Maria," and Dustin Celestino, director and writer of Cinemalaya 2023 award-winning film "Duyan ng Magiting."
