Porac execs laud QI Pampanga for toilets

PORAC -- Mayor Condralito dela Cruz and Vice Mayor Dexter David lauded on Monday the leadership of Quota international (QI) of Pampanga for their initiative of building a toilet for the indigenous community at the Tent City Resettlement area in Barangay Planas here.

"We are happy to have organizations like Quota who graciously help a community on their own initiative. We hope to work closely with them in their other projects in Porac," Dela Cruz said.

The new building, which was formally inaugurated and turned over to the community, was received on behalf of the community by Dela Cruz and David.

David, whose late mother former Board Member Edna David was a member of Quota, also expressed his gratitude to the club. He added that there are areas of concern that the town officials and QI of Pampanga can work closely on. He added that the toilet facility will greatly improve the living conditions of the local community.

The single level building composes of three bathrooms complete with toilets. The building was constructed in the early part of the year through Quota Pampanga's unified program.

Unified Project chair Myra Manabat said that funds for the program came from contributions of other Quota Clubs in the Philippines from their 2014 district conference held inside Clark Freeport. Manabat said that they have chosen the said location to be recipients of the program based from a social service mission held in 2014.

QI Pampanga President Myrna Canlas said that the community is a relocation site for those affected and displaced by the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo and the subsequent lahar flows. The area has been home to at least 80 families or more families from three Aeta tribes.

Canlas said that the facility was constructed at the cost of P127,000 and will be turned-over to the local community this month. She added that the facility will be managed by the community and will be free for community use. The project is among the impact projects of Quota Pampanga.

"Quotarians are known for our programs for the deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech-impaired individuals and poor women and children. This is part of our regular programs and we hope it makes an impact on the local community," Canlas said, stressing that the local community has a responsibility towards the up-keep of the facility.

Quota members share the values of serving and encouraging others, developing friendships, and promoting international understanding.
