Vacations

I WAS in Singapore City two weeks ago for a brief five-day vacation.

My wife Kits with my two sons Bong and Rommel were with me, with their wives Johanna and Kookie. So with our grandchildren Trisha, Stephanie, Peachy and Mike.

Our youngest son Moses is in Tehran, Iran. He works there in a universal bank as a computer programmer, that’s why he and his son JD could not come with us.

My Apos enjoyed very much the rides in their first visit to Sentosa Island of the City, for it is where Universal Studios is located, a smaller version though of the one in Orlando, Florida, USA which I and my wife and my sons visited 15 years ago, when they were still bachelors then.

It was a 25-day vacation which took us to San Francisco and Los Angeles in California, Las Vegas, Nevada, Atlanta in Georgia, Orlando in Florida then New York City, Washington and Honolulu in Hawaii for three days before we left for Manila.

My sons, my wife and myself enjoyed the vacation. I was then in my early 50’s while Kits was in her early 40’s. Our adventurous spirits were high still and we were strong and healthy to endure the long walks in the day time.

There were so many interesting sights to behold and how the Americans developed their lives and their environment too.

America’s power and progress was tremendous then, never anticipating that its very healthy economy will sink low as what is happening in the great USA today, where there's much unemployment, bankruptcies and corruption.

The future is indeed uncertain and unpredictable. Looking back, who would think that I would be involved in the Divine Mercy devotion being but a nominal catholic. And worst, I lost my priceless voice due to cancer of the larynx, four years ago, when my vocal cords was totally removed.

I have to undergo two chemotherapy sessions in Manila Doctors Hospital and 42 radiation sessions at Makati Medical Center. It was a very expensive experience.

But my burden, I carried it with grace for God never gives us a burden we can’t carry as He promised to His followers. (Editor’s note: This debut piece signals Atty.
