DOH: Keep schools ‘Wild diseases-free’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Health (DOH) here is reminding school officials and students to be to be vigilant against the so-called “Wild diseases” during the rainy season and make school premises free from such risks.

In a health advisory sent to Sun.Star Pampanga, the DOH said Wild diseases include Water-borne diseases, Influenza, Leptospirosis and Dengue (Wild), all of which cause more deaths and diseases than A (H1N1).

The DOH said that A(H1N1) should not downplay the importance of the vigilance against Wild diseases, which are more common and have been around longer than the dreaded flue disease.

DOH Regional Director Rio Magpantay is also urging school officials to clean surroundings to remove possible breading grounds for mosquitoes.

The DOH is also prescribing the use of insecticide treated curtains to prevent mosquitoes from invading classrooms.

Magpantay explained that dengue-carrying mosquitoes are day-biting mosquitoes and a curtain is an appropriate instrument to protect the pupils and students from mosquitoes while they are in school.

The DOH is also reminding school officials to come up with their own clean-up programs and health campaigns to promote good health among students.

Meanwhile, Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Director Teofila Villanueva told Sun.Star Pampanga that medical teams are now roving in various schools in Central Luzon to inspect the safety measures of schools and health conditions of students. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
