Day tour in Negros tourism spots up by 150%

MURCIA -- A significant 150 percent increase in day tour and arrivals of local tourists in Negros Occidental was noted this year, Provincial Tourism Officer Jennylind Cordero said.

Cordero said that from 4,000 rooms of tourist accommodations, the number increased to at least 8,000 rooms of daily lodging - mostly by local tourists. That, according to Cordero, is an indication that Negrenses had appreciated the province's tourist attractions.

She also noted that the rapid innovations in the province's tourism industry are products of the government's good programs.

In August, the newest resort in Manapla town will be inaugurated and expected to bring in more tourists.

With this, Cordero said ourism, aside from being an income-generating sector, has also made the province and its people popular.

Aside from the province' festival trademark, the Panaad sa Negros, one of the most-flocked festivities was the just-concluded 14th Mudpack Festival of Murcia town.

Visitors from other provinces like Benguet and La Union, as well as foreign nationals such as the Koreans, Germans, Americans and Europeans, among others, witnessed the said festival. Thus, it opened many opportunities to local businesses to showcase their products and services that generated additional income both on the entrepreneurs and the town.

The festival, meanwhile, showcased the ingenuity and the love of Mother Nature by the Negrenses, especially for the Murciahanons who dedicated the festival as their annual tribute to the preservation of the environment. (GMD)
