Women board members unite

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Board Member Florence Tingbaoen is excited to have another female in the Provincial Board.

Board member-elect Concepcion Balao is set to join the new set of provincial officials next month.

“Two heads are better than one,” Tingbaoen said.

Balao finished her three terms as mayor of Atok town, championing women’s projects in the municipality. She will sit as the second woman in the Provincial Board.

Balao with Tingbaoen represents the second provincial district together with Nelson Dangwa.

“We will have to meet and talk about projects that we will spearhead,” Tingbaoen said.

Tingbaoen said projects for women and children will be prioritized.

At present, the provincial Gender Equality and Development code has passed third reading and is about to be enacted.

Tingaboen said the law will focus on the important issues for women and children.

Women’s rights and human dignity are essential in a civilized society with the enactment of the Gender and Development (GAD) Code is a step towards this goal.

The code aims to institutionalize the protection of the rights of both women and children and the promotion of total human development.(Maria Elena Catajan)
