Senator pushes for immediate appointment of RDC chair

SENATOR Teofisto Guingona III assured Negrenses yesterday that he will remind President Benigno Aquino III about the immediate appointment of the chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) for the newly created Negros Island Region (NIR).

Guingona, who paid a courtesy visit to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday, said that NIR has been long overdue for Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

“At least now it's done. Better late than never. I believe everything will be smooth especially with the agreement that whatever help from the national government - the two provinces will have a 60 (Occidental)-40 (Oriental) sharing,” Guingona said.

The senator believes that once the Kabankalan City Airport and the Sipalay City Airport are completed, everything will follow in terms of infrastructure and tourism business development.

Guingona was in the province yesterday for the monitoring of the implementation of free and automatic PhilHealth coverage of senior citizens especially those that are issued with IDs from their respective Senior Citizen Organizations.

Seeking reelection

Meanwhile, Guingona confirmed yesterday that he is seeking re-election in the 2016 elections.

He revealed that the Liberal Party where he belongs will hold a national convention where they will decide on the party's standard bearer in 2016. (TDE/Sunnex)
