Bomb explodes at town hall

A CRUDE bomb exploded at the town hall of Bangued, Abra on inauguration day of its newly elected officials on Wednesday, a police official said.

The bomb ripped through the front portion of the building, said Abra police director Joseph Adnol. The damage was placed at P50,000.

No one was hurt in the incident, he said.

Adnol theorized that the motive of the bombing was to disrupt the peace in the area.

As this developed, Cordillera police director Villamor Bumanglag remained elusive in answering questions pertaining to peace and order in the region in the wake of numerous crimes in Abra, La Trinidad and Baguio City.

Last week, Police Officer 1 Recto Dapilog was gunned by unidentified assailants in Abra. Dapilog was part of a team that seized several high powered firearms from the home of Boliney Mayor Ronald Balao-as on June 19.

Just this week, several mutilated body parts were found in various parts of La Trinidad town and Baguio City.

The police have no lead in both incidents. (Ma. Elena Catajan)
