MANILA - Former Sun.Star Superbalita 9-ball champions Ronato Alcano and Antonio Gabica scored comfortable wins in the 2010 World Pool Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Alcano, the 2005 world pool champion, crushed Ahmed Hassan of Iraq, 9-1, to set a match with Spain’s David Alcaide in the next round. Alcaide downed Jason Theron of South Africa, 9-6.

“I didn’t expect to win this easy,” Alcano said.

Gabica, the winner of the first Sun.Star Superbalita 9-Ball tournament, outclassed Nicolas Otterman of Germany, 9-7, and will meet countryman Francisco Felicilda, 9-8 winner against Muhammad Zulfikri of India, in the next round.

Antonio Lining also scored a big win in his opening match, beating Corey Deuel of the US, 9-7. He will face Khalid Al Kamale of United Arab Emirates next.

After losing his first match, Efren Reyes, got back into contention after beating Holger Gries of Germany, 9-5, in the losers’ bracket. (PR)
