Palace to finalize communications department (1:04 p.m.)

MANILA -- The administration of President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III already started but has yet to finalize the creation of one important department in his government, his media communications group.

Aquino earlier announced the abolition of the Office of the Press Secretary, which he decided to replace with what he called "communications department".

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda admitted that they are having a hard time finalizing the structure of the department.

“The bulk of the discussion is that what would be the new OPS structure be. We are not just discussing on who will head the department. We have a saying that structure follows strategy, so we have to finalize the strategy first then the structure and then the person who will lead it," he explained.

All Cabinet positions of the new bachelor President have been filled up except for the communications department and the Interior and Local Government secretary, which the President decided to head for the meantime.

The communications group that Aquino will be forming is tasked to handle queries from the media and other questionable actions that the new government might execute.
